DEAD MILLY

Riot grrrl infused rock music for the restless

Milly speaks up. Against the things that are unjust, suffocate the heart or leave us in rage and anger. Riot grrrls forever and everything else punk has taught us. Never again nice and quiet. Rather wild and queer and brave and full force against stagnation, encrusted structures and ideologies that belong in a museum. Dead Milly follows their urgent wish for more loud guitars. Their sound runs on a sweaty mix of punk rock, pop and a pinch of metal: Music that feels like a rough rock you’d like to snuggle up against at night. Delicate sounds and choirs smeared like a balm on top, while it’s rumbling underneath. Versatile, raw and loud, attitude before perfection - just the way Rock music sounds in the factory setting.

In spring 2020, the three women from Zurich recorded their debut album "Reset" at the QFLM Studio St. Gallen, working together with sound engineer and musician Michael Gallusser (Stahlberger, Lord Kesseli and the Drums). For label work and distribution Dead Milly are going aboard with the independent record label Sailing for Peace (Rio Wolta, Acapulco Stage Divers, Asleep.) - a small Zurich based record label with a big heart for analogue music. Because "Reset" will not only be released on April 16th 2021 on digital channels, but also as vinyl. On November 13th 2020, the first single "Tigress" was released: Straightforward, blunt, wide-legged. A feminist ode to the fall of patriarchy. After a brief Christmas break, the single "Sleep Well" followed on 15 January 2021 - not a lullaby, but a story of loss and grief. Gentle melodies and soothing choruses are interrupted by powerful guitars and caught up again by melancholy. On 8.3.2021, International Women's Day, the third single "Sister, Sister" will be released. With this song, Dead Milly wrote an anthem for women who love women and the queer community.

If we look at Dead Milly’s history carefully, one could trace it back to 2004, where singer and bass player Carmen Schoder met drummer Julia Kapp with the help of the good old notice board at her music school. The first band didn’t survive for very long and the two spent their teenage years as an unstable duo, playing mainly in their own living rooms. In 2015 they decided to try again to form a band and found the perfect complement in guitarist Bojana Mitrovic. A lot has happened since then: Various club concerts, the release of the debut EP in autumn 2018, two gigs at Zurich's Sechseläutenplatz (at the official 1st of May demonstration in 2018 in front of 12,000 people and in 2019 at the 25th edition of Zurich Pride), a small Eastern Europe tour through Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as acoustic concerts in Zurich's minirock (r.i.p) and the jazz club Moods.
